Finnish basic education, which has been praised internationally, is mainly based on e ducation divided into subjects. However, the national core curriculum of 2014 includes transversal competence objectives in addition to the objectives defined for each s ubject. These transversal competence areas include seven areas (L1–L7), which are c onsidered to be skills that pupils will need in the future, both in their professional a nd daily lives. One of these areas is thinking and learning to learn, which lays the b asis for continuous learning in the future. In this chapter, we shortly discuss the p reconditions for learning thinking skills and describe exercises that can be used to p ractise and teach these skills.
