Abstrakti
For fifty years, I have been walking and skiing in the woods, alone and with
family or friends, picking berries, jogging with the dog or just wandering. The
forest has provided the materials for my wooden utensils and works of art. In the forest I have built my snowy works of art connected to the trees. I have gone to the forest to calm down, to recover from stress. I have gone to the forest to escape something. I have always been refreshed after, found what I was looking for, even if I didn’t know what I was looking for.
I have lost many of the forests I love - one day the forest has just disappeared or
changed drastically. The losses have felt awful, I have not known how to deal with them. Only in recent years have I learned to face the feelings of loss associated with nature. The loss of loved places can be mourned like the loss of a loved one. The grief eases by mourning and, for example, by playing with snow. Working with snow gives me great pleasure, despite the fact that both snow and forests are endangered.
