In my artwork I was exploring my family-roots in Pyhäjärvi-village, in Sompio-area, in Finnish Lapland. My childhood-family never has identified to be a
Sapmi. My maternal roots have been in this same area for many centuries, maybe even millennia. I feel sad that all of our history has disappeared into silence and all people who once had the knowledge of stories and language have passed away many years ago.

My artwork represents the same landscape in many layers. One layer represents
one generation: the picture gets fulfilled only when you can see all the layers with the same view. The name of the work is in Kemi´s Sàmi language, which became extinct now over 100 years ago. Few written examples of Kemi Sámi have survived and one of those is the Lord´s prayer. First line in it is “Äätj miin, ki lak täivest”. This artwork is dedicated to all my great-great-grandmothers, all my mothers (= in Finnish äiti) in heaven.
