Inspired by Past and Future Finnish Design Classics: Rovaniemi 16.3.2020

International exchange students together with industrial design students and master students have analyzed Finnish design classics in this Furniture Design Models course. Students were inspired by classic works like Eero Aarnio’s Bubble chair, Ilmari Tapiovaara’s Kongo chair, Eero Saarinen’s Womb Chair and future classics like Teppo Lakanimi’s LYOL table and Laura Väre’s KIIKKA chair. Students created new furniture designs based on their analyzes on the classics. During the Spring semester, they have worked on mock-up models and finally they have made scale models of their final designs. Various techniques have been tested such as molding plywood, compression molding plastic, bending and spot-welding metal. The materials used were mainly wood, plastic and metal. Miniature scale models 1:6 of these designs are presented in the exhibition.
