title = "Iceland",
abstract = "Iceland has a clear interest in the polar regions, albeit to different extents and on different levels. Iceland's proximity to the Arctic Circle, its Arctic-like climate and landscapes and its identity attest to Arctic characteristics. This is further emphasized by its adherence to the main Arctic legal instruments and its active participation in a myriad of governance frameworks. As such, Iceland is firmly rooted in Arctic law and governance as an Arctic State. Iceland has a less significant engagement in Antarctic law and governance; nevertheless, its role and interests in the region are developing, particularly through intensified efforts to become a polar knowledge hub.",
