Haunted Data “Goldmine”: Repropolitical Anxieties and Injustice in Finland

In this chapter, we closely examine the production of Finnish population databases, asking whether this area of high-tech development in Finland can be considered a form of “reproductive politics” (Briggs 2018). We fix our attention on Finland’s famed Nordic data “goldmine” (Kongsholm et al. 2018), referring to the exceptionally valuable national data resources originating from historical practices of keeping population-level registers rather than relying on census data.
