Critical minerals in the Arctic: Challenges and perspectives for the Nordic countries (CRIMINA)

Projektin tiedot

Kuvaus

The Nordforsk funded project on Critical minerals in the Arctic: Challenges and perspectives for Nordic countries (2025-2029) aims to develop policy and regulatory options to respond to the critical minerals industry in the Nordic Arctic, including Greenland. The geographical focus is both land and seabed areas, and how the extraction of critical minerals poses serious concerns for environmental sustainability while infringing upon the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities.

The Arctic Centre is responsible for the work package relating to the rights and perspectives of indigenous peoples and local communities and developing appropriate responses. The project also considers the implementation of the European Union's Critical Raw Materials Act, and thus developing critical raw materials law and policy.
