Tutkimusintressit

Ilari Nikula is a doctoral researcher in International Relations specialising in environmental social science and political ecology. He teaches both Master and Bachelor students in International Relations at the University of Lapland. Nikula has presented conference papers in 14 international conferences around the world and his research has been funded by the Kone Foundation (personal grant). The topics of the papers and presentations have included global environment, politics of nature, politics of knowledge production, global governance, neoliberalism and the environment, and biopolitics.

His research interests cover a broad range of topics related to the global socio-political consequences of environmental issues and science-policy relationship. His current research interests include the relationship between expert governance (technocracy) and democracy, the post-political, global governance, carbon credits and neoliberal governance.

Additionally, he is interested in issues around themes like global knowledge production and its 'certification', including the concept of 'misinformation', academic freedom, philosophy and sosiology of science, and the emerging concept of global 'one health'.
