Kuvaus

This is a fictional report on factual research project ‘Envisioning Proximity Tourism with New Materialism’ (2019–2023). Establishing the report utilises the means of scientific fabulation (Latour 2016, Höckert 2020), diffractive reading (Barad 2007) and the literal genre of ecological horror, highly influenced by the ‘Area X Southern Reach trilogy’ (Jeff VanderMeer 2014). The design of the report is made to reflect both the spirit of the projects research in process, and the philosophy of alternative scientific writing. The report includes diffractive reading of research plan rationale and published research outcomes. The reporter research field is described as a topographical and geomorphological pattern anomaly: chain consisting of 12 fells, located in Pyhä-Luosto districts, a.k.a. ‘Area Y’, authorised within the laws on national parks. Research objectives of the involved unit have been to corporeally record, translate and transcribe the biological, geophysical and climatic status in situ to examine, trial and test engaging communication with the locale under the ‘Anthropocene strain’. The review compromises the impartiality of the imaginary authoring reviewer, leading to immersive and subjective intra-view, where the personal experiments of the individual researchers merge together with the authors own experiences producing unexpected results.
