Empathetic AI Design at work: Lessons from Service Design Practices

AI technology is advancing every day. This article describes lessons from service design practices to enhance empathetic work environment and practices. Artificial Intelligence (AI) permeates every corner of our work (Prentice & Nguyen, 2020). The public and business interests are growing as the recent introduction of ChatGPT becomes sensational. In the work context, though, the perception of AI adaptations is often critical and even fearful towards the changes it may bring. However, the role of AI at work has yet to be fully addressed. Due to the uncertainty, adopting AI at work impacts employee engagement negatively (Braganza et al., 2021) and requires rigorous onboarding training sessions (Makarius et al., 2020). Therefore, it is critical to investigate how AI technologies enrich employee and customer experiences.
