Abstract
African immigrants living in Finland encounter subtle yet persistent stress-related challenges within the skilled labour market. These difficulties are influenced by intersecting racial microaggressions and hegemonic practices that undermine their post-migration well-being. This study aimed to examine how systemic features of Finnish employment process lead to these stressors. Using an empirical ethnographic design grounded in qualitative analysis, the research engaged highly-skilled African immigrant as a comparative sample to deconstruct hiring practices and labour-market dynamics. Data was gathered through in-depth interviews and analysed using grounded theory to highlight patterns of social injustice. Findings show that ostensibly neutral recruitment procedures embed institutionalized and structural barriers that limit access to skilled employment, reinforce generational vulnerability, and contribute to ongoing brain drain from Africa. The study suggests further research into institutional accountability, employer decision-making processes, and cross-national comparisons to better understand and address systemic inequalities in Finnish labour markets.
