Metsän määritelmä -kokeellinen lyhytdokumentti : käsikirjoitus ja ohjaus

Metsän määritelmä (2024) on kokeellinen lyhytdokumentti, joka etsii metsää käsitteen takana. Sen kurittomat kertojaäänet ja aistillinen kuvamateriaali houkuttelevat ristiriitaisille ja aina päättyville poluille, joista ei lopulta muodostu yhtenäistä mielikuvaa, yhteistä ääntä tai etenkään yhtä metsää.

Lyhytelokuva sukeltaa ihmisen ja metsän yhteiseen elollisuuteen, ja herättää outoja kysymyksiä ilman lopullisia vastauksia: mitä me aistimme hämärässä metsässä tai millainen on metsä perheen jäsenenä? Miten ihmisen orgaaninen liikekieli voi kietoutua metsän olevaisuuteen? Entä onko metsän ei-inhimillistä luonnetta lopulta mitenkään mahdollista tavoittaa?

Metsän määritelmän dokumentaarisuus on fragmentaarista, suhteellista ja tuntemattomaan luotaavaa. Se ei nojaa toden tallentamiseen, vaan paremminkin toden tulemiseen; sen alituiseen kehkeytymiseen elokuvan tekemisen ja jokaisen esityksen myötä.

Definition of forest (2024) is an experimental short film searching for a forest behind the concept. Its unruly voice overs lure the viewer to conflicting paths, never composing a single, compatible view or an entire forest.

The film dives into the shared living of humans and forests, and suggests peculiar questions without easy answers: What do we sense in a dark, shadowy forest and what kind of member of family can a forest be? How does the organic movement of a dancer construe the idea of a forest? And finally, is there any way to reach the nonhuman nature of a forest?

The documentariness of the film is fragmentary, relational, and probing towards the unknown. Instead of recording and representing reality, the film relies on its becoming: reality is what happens in the processes of filming and viewing.
