Abstract
The introduction to The Sámi World opens perspectives to Sámi understandings of the worlds and realities – Sámi máilmmit – and, hence, discusses the ontological and epistemological premises of the book in relation to its chapters. Being built on the Sámi storytelling tradition in one of its new forms, the introduction gives an overview of the contemporary Sámi society, its multiple conditions and its pluriverse nature. Sámi society is constituted simultaneously through local practices and relations and transborder regional networks that are not separate from other global structures and phenomena. The chapters of the book indicate that Sámi world-making creates opportunities to live Sámi life in this messy world while looking towards the future.
