Abstract

Industrial design department has offered Furniture design models -course since 2018. During the years approximately 60 pieces of small scale model furnitures have been designed and made. International exchange students together with industrial design students have analyzed Finnish design classics in Furniture Design Models course. Students were inspired by classic works by designers like Alvar Aalto, Antti Nurmesniemi, Ilkka Suppanen, Harri Koskinen, Tapio Anttila and even younger generation designer like Laura Väre, Maija Puoskari and Antrei Hartikainen. Students created new furniture designs based on their analyzes on the classics. During the Autumn semester, they have worked on mock-up models and finally they have made scale models of their designs. Various techniques have been tested such as bending and molding plywood. The materials used were mainly wood, plastic and metal. Miniature scale models 1:6 of these designs are presented in the exhibition.
