Future Bio Arctic Design is a joint effort of the University of Lapland, Lapland University of Applied Sciences, and the Natural Resources Institute Finland. The working group is a combination of art and science, with researchers from the textile and clothing industries, agrologists, chemists, artists, designers and material engineers working side by side.

FBAD aim to develope a natural, toxin-free and long-lasting textile to repel
mosquitos. FBAD has investigated compounds extracted from Arctic plants
that could replace the harmful and dangerous chemicals, that are currently
used. It is significant to research the potential of plant extracts, acting as
natural anti-mold agents, UV shields or insect repellents.
