Abstract

This chapter provides readers with insights and engagement activities to help students:
1. Distinguish four different meanings of “culture” and consider how cultural values are connected to these meanings
2. Explain how traditions and heritage have developed and why they are maintained in cultures
3. Illustrate how languages are a mirror of the cultures within which they are created
4. Compare art and festivals from different times and places to distinguish how they embody individual cultural values
5. Visualise how modernity is in flux, and never stable
