Description

The UAV-MEMO project investigated the technical and regulatory feasibility of UAVs on mineral exploration and mining operations. The goal was to provide opportunities for new and existing small to medium enterprises to offer UAV services in Lapland as well as mining and exploration companies to purchase such services. The project was carried out as a parallel undertaking by the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) and the faculty of law at the University of Lapland (ULAP).

Key findings

The project demonstrated the technical and regulatory feasibility of UAVs on several applications within mineral exploration and mining operations. The project led to increased awareness as well as the development of services within the field.
