Project Details
Description
This multidisciplinary project investigates the consequences of a thermokarst event on the biogeochemical cycles and biota by bringing together recently thawed permafrost soil and peatland vegetation.
The project uses (2015-2016) a mesocosm design in field conditions and specifically focuses on the roles of different factors - soil water diffusion, microbial, faunal and plant root invasion - in driving changes in permafrost soil and, likewise, in peatland vegetation and soil.
Principal Investigator (PI): E. Dorrepaal (Umeå University, Sweden)
Research team: K. Gavazov, E. J. Krab, S. Monteux, L. Teuber, M. Väisänen
Funding: The Swedish Research Council, Formas, Knut och Alice Wallenbergs Stiftelse to E. Dorrepaal
