ICEBERG - Innovative Community Engagement for Building Effective Resilience and Arctic Ocean Pollution-control Governance in the Context of Climate Change

Project Details

Description

The Iceberg project has a set of aims centred around Arctic pollution and One Health approach. The researchers comprehensively assess sources, types, distributions, and impacts of pollution in combination with chronic climate-induced stressors on ecosystems and communities in the European Arctic's land-ocean continuum using a One Health approach. Iceberg analyses the sanitary quality of the food chain by characterizing chemical contaminants gaining a comprehensive understanding of the synergistic impacts of Climate Change and pollution on human health. This new and synthesized knowledge combined with engagement and co-production with Arctic communities will be used to develop strategies for enhancing community-led resilience and pollution-control governance. Scenario modelling is used to co-design local pollution control, mitigation and adaptation strategies. The work is further enhanced by grounding field findings, local scenarios and strategies within the multi-level governance framework, which will lead to policy recommendations, including for the European policy-makers.
