Research interests

Mia Landauer holds a Doctorate degree (Dr. nat. techn.) in Natural Resources and Life Sciences and Master's degree (M.Sc.) in Geography. Her primary research topics are risk governance, climate change adaptation, and land use change. Her current research focuses on participatory environmental governance of industrial projects that affect reindeer husbandry, an important social-ecological system in the Arctic. She is particularly interested in climate change related risks, and risks emerging from growing demand for natural resource exploitation, as well as the role of the Arctic in international climate policy. In her previous projects Landauer has studied regional vulnerability of nature-based tourism and outdoor recreation to climate change, as well as urban climate governance in the Nordic countries. Before she joined the University of Lapland, she was a postdoctoral researcher in the Risk and Resilience Program of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria.
