Personal profile

Research interests

I work in the fields of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)Business Ethics, and Responsible Management Education. Adopting a discursive and stakeholder perspective, I explore conceptual frameworks and methodologies that help work towards more responsible business practices in tourism. My current research agenda builds on these fields and comprises four main areas: human-animal relationssharing economyresponsible tourism experiences, and experiential learning.

My work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Business Ethics, Management Learning, Journal of Sustainable Tourism, Tourism Geographies, Tourism Recreation Research, and Journal of Teaching in Travel & Tourism. I have also written several chapters for books published by Routledge, Palgrave McMillan, Springer, and DeGruyter.

Teaching interests

Teaching, for me, means helping students learn how to learn and understand their social worlds. I put an emphasis on supporting students to develop critical thinking and reflexivity, which I see as vital to responsible business. While critical thinking refers to the skills needed to deal with ethical issues in today's complex business environments, critical reflexivity is the ability to question business-as-usual in a search for more responsible business practices.

Through experiential learning pedagogies, I aim to encourage students to feel inspired and personally engaged in their learning by reflecting on complex business and society issues from different stakeholder perspectives. This is essential for educating the responsible tourism leaders of tomorrow. Being disposed to critical thinking and reflexivity allows professionals to be open-minded, inquiring, mindfulness, caring and eager to critically evaluate contemporary management practices and decision making. These are among the essential dispositions that students should develop in order to transform old ways of organizing, managing, and relating to stakeholders in tourism.
