Personal profile

Research interests

I am a specialist in Sámi language didactics and currently work as a teacher educator. My doctoral dissertation, Jietnadagas bustávvii – bustávas jietnadahkii: Sámegielat álgooahpahusa ohppiid teknihkalaš lohkandáidu (2024), explored the technical reading skills of Sámi-speaking children in early primary education, with a particular focus on the unique linguistic features of Sámi languages, such as phonemes and special characters.

I am particularly interested in how children learn to read and write in Sámi. My interests also include the specific features of Sámi languages, reading and writing difficulties such as dyslexia, as well as the assessment of these skills, speech processing, and phonological awareness. In my work, I aim to integrate Sámi pedagogical approaches, linguistic awareness, and practical methods that support children’s learning and well-being in Sámi-medium education.
