Cumulus Art Exhibition 30.-31.5.2019
The Cumulus Rovaniemi 2019 conference presents Around the Campfire – Resilience and Intelligence Art Exhibition at the Agora-hall of the Faculty of Art and Design. The works of art construct together narratives of resilience, intelligence, grossing borders between art and design, cultural participation, and something collaborative that can only be experienced at the exhibition. For example, through Lynn Taylor´s Solander´s Book (2018) you can join Swedish scientist Daniel Solander’s exploration, which he carried out with James Cook’s expedition in the 18th century. Alchemy Souvenir (2018) made of polylactide biodegradable and bioactive (PLA), gold leaf and felt, work of Spanish artist David Serra Navarro, suggests that actually ice is the gold of our era.
The exhibition curators are Professors Heidi Pietarinen, Ana Nuutinen and Silja Nikula, and University teacher Leila Lipiäinen from the University of Lapland, Faculty of Art and Design. The jury selected 11 works of art from the Netherlands, Spain, Canada, Finland and New Zealand. During the selecting process, attention was paid to the conference themes, material choices and the structure of the work, such as the size which was max. 15cm x 15 cm x 15 cm. This was based on the idea that the works of art are light to send by mail to Rovaniemi and easy to carry back home in artist’s own luggage.
The exhibition is open on May 30th from 8am to 8pm and May 31th from 8am to 4pm. Welcome!
